The Sisters Of Perpetual Indulgence are a 21st century order of Queer nuns. . . . Yes, you read that right. Queer! Not Gay, Queer. It’s true! Contrary to popular assumption you don’t need to be a man to be a nun. Anybody, potentially, can become a Sister, not just gay men. Let me explain.
It all started in 1979 when a former drag queen from Iowa was sitting in her apartment in San Francisco, bored out of her mind. Her name was Kenneth and he’d just moved to San Francisco from Way The Fuck Out There, La La Land and it was Easter weekend.
Out of boredom (computers were not really a thing back then) and streaks of curiosity, Ken remembered the authentic nuns habits he’d brought with him from La La Land. He made the suggestion and before long a gaggle of bearded men’s is nuns vestments were terrorizing the town. The response they got from the public was pretty intense and they realized they were glimpsing a reservoir of untapped energy which they decided to corral and focus on advancing equality and educating the public on sexual health practices.
